Wildlife camera operator Dan Beecham was the recipient of the BBC’s NHU bursary scheme and, over the past couple of years, has spent over 500 days in the field, working on the forthcoming Blue Planet 2 series. Wetpixel was able to catch up with him and ask him a few questions about the new series and underwater filmmaking in general.

They highlight the advantages of shooting both 4K and in a RAW format as well as how faithful the camera’s colorimetry is underwater. Dan Beecham of Underwater Video Services, Cape Town, South Africa has shared some underwater footage shot with the Sony F55 camera. He has found that the ability to shoot Sony RAW without a compression ratio and its color rendering make it an excellent camera for underwater use. This is interesting, since Sony’s color rendering has been a challenge for underwater use on many of its other recent cameras.
