Manatee influx closes Three Sisters Spring

Manatees on Wetpixel

An apparent combination of low tides and cold weather created an influx of over 300 manatees (Trichechus manatus) into Three Sisters Spring, Crystal River, Florida on Monday. This lead to the US Fish and Wildlife Service issuing a temporary closure (to the public) of Three Sisters Springs. They reopened on Tuesday, but the service has stated that it is possible that they may be closed again in the future.

Whilst these events are hard to predict, it would seem prudent to check prior to travelling to the area if the Springs will be open.
