Europe’s first underwater sculpture garden in place

Jason deCaires Taylor, known for his underwater sculptures, has unveiled his latest project off Lanzarote in Europe. The sculptures, which are casts of real people, feature refugees, and figures walking towards a fence, not paying attention. The pieces are collectively known as the Rubicon installation.

The installation is a nod to the dangers of climate change. The fence represents climate change, the point of no return, and the figures appear to walk towards the fence. The figures are posed in ways that represent them going about their business and not paying attention. An example is one figure taking a selfie with a mobile phone.

The installation also features a raft with refugees, known as the Raft of Lampedusa.
