Video: Costa Rica Deep Sea Connections
The Schmidt Ocean Institute’s Costa Rica Deep Sea Connections project is underway. It is currently the deep sea areas and sea mounts in the coastal margin of Costa Rica around the Cocos Islands. Specifically, they are sharing amazing footage captured by their ROV of the creatures that are endemic at depths of around 3,500 m (11,500 ft.) of depth.
Sony announces a6400 camera and firmware updates to a9 and a7 models
Newsshooter reports that Sony has announced a new mirrorless camera model and significant firmware updates for the a9, a7r III and a7 III at an event at Sony HQ in San Diego. The a6400 has a 24MP APS-C sensor with a native ISO range of 100 to 3200 and new autofocus functionality including Eye and Real Time Tracking. Video recording is available in 4K with no pixel binning and HLG picture profile, along with S-Log2 and S-Log3.
Ikelite announces housing for Nikon D3500
Ikelite has announced their 200DLM/C housing for the entry-level Nikon D3500 SLR camera. Constructed of the company’s trademark ABS-PC and acrylic, the housing is compatible with the DLM type C port system and can be fitted with electrical strobe triggering, including TTL when equipped with optional circuitry and connections.
Field Review: Seacam Seaflash 60D Strobes
Wetpixel offers a comprehensive review of the performance of the Seacam 60D strobes. Small and lightweight, these have an output of 60Ws at a color temperature of 4400°K without any diffuser. The review has seen the strobes being used over multiple assignments and in the creation of around 10,000 images of almost every type.
Results: Ocean Art 2019
The 2019 Ocean Art Contest has released its results. The overall winner was Duncan Murrell with a lovely image of 3 devil rays feeding in loops. Congratulations to him and to all the other Wetpixel members among the placings.
Film: Shadows in a Desert Sea by Howard Hall
Howard and Michele Hall of Howard Hall Productions have shared the remastered version of their award-winning film, Shadows in a Desert Sea. Originally shot with 16 mm film, it has been converted to a 16:9 aspect ratio and some of the original footage has been replaced by recent HD imagery. The full 1080p version is available to view on Amazon Prime Video.
Nikon Z series firmware to offer ProRes RAW over HDMI
As a part of their press release about the products on display at the CES show, Nikon has announced an upcoming firmware update for the Z series cameras that will add the possibility of recording ProRes RAW output on the Atomos Ninja recorder over an HDMI connection. Also, it will add support for CFexpress format cards and Eye AF.
